D-Day:  the day of the Normandy landings

D-Day is a term often used in military parlance to denote the day on which a combat attack or operation is to be initiated, the best known D-Day is June 6, 1944

Operation Overlord. Or, to the French “Le Débarquement.”

The largest  air, land and sea operation undertaken in the history of warfare.

On June 6, 1944, American, British and Canadian troops landed on the beaches of Normandy. The liberation of France and Western Europe had started, leading to the defeat of Nazi Germany a few months later.
